Things You Can Do To Tackle A Tick Problem Around Your House

Blog

There are a lot of areas that tend to get a lot more ticks during the summer than other places. Then there are places that don't usually see a lot of tick activity but have suddenly noticed an increase. Whether you are trying to battle a current tick problem or you just want to make sure that you are taking all of the preventative measures that you can, you will want to continue reading. Here are a few things you can do to both prevent and tackle a tick problem on your property:

Keep The Yard Nicely Trimmed

One of the first things you are going to want to do is to destroy the habitat where they like to live. This is easier than it sounds. All you need to do is to make sure that you are keeping your yard mowed so that the grass is always nice and short. Look around for weeds that are growing. There might be some patches of weeds or dead leaves on the ground over behind a shed you rarely notice. Complete a tour of your yard and do a basic cleanup.

Create A Barrier Around Your Yard

This is especially important for anyone whose property borders a wooded area. After all, it is likely that there are going to be a lot of ticks out in the woods and if that's not your property, there isn't much you can do about what's going on over there. However, you can make it very difficult for the ticks in the woods to make it over into your yard anymore. The goal is to create a mulch or rock barrier along that portion of your property. Make it a couple of feet wide and you can add statues and bird baths to make it decorative. This is to make it so difficult for the ticks to cross that they simply won't.

Now that you have had a chance to learn about the previously mentioned tips, it is time to put the suggestions into action. The sooner you start cleaning up the yard and securing fences that may be letting tick-carrying animals, such as bunnies, into your yard the better. Make sure that you are being extremely cautious if you do decide to use any pesticide in your yard, especially if you have small children, pets, or you know that the neighbor's dog ventures over into your yard occasionally. You can always consult with a pest control technician to see what services they can offer to get rid of the tick and prevent many more from coming back.

For additional help, contact a tick control service in your area.
